Sunart Studio / Doug Kalmer
Doug Kalmer was born and raised in Port Chester, NY, but moved to the rolling hills of central Tennessee at the age of 31 to pursue his dreams of building a solar home and living a quiet country life. Having achieved that, he found stained glass as an art form to meet his needs for artistic expression and some income. Remembering childhood kaleidoscopes, the usual forms of stained glass soon got replaced by an obsession with building unique stained glass kaleidoscopes. His background training in Automotive Technology and Refrigeration influences his work, as he uses mechanical devices and copper tubing in building some kaleidoscopes. Doug works with two kilns to slump and fuse kaleidoscope bodies, as well as making cold glass kaleidoscopes, and copper mini scopes.
